6 foods to avoid before exercising
HFor your workout to be most effective, it is important to remember to eat the right food a few hours before starting your workout. If you train on an empty stomach, you won’t have enough energy for maximum performance. However, one “but” appears here – you need to know what foods can and should not be consumed before going in for sports, because in the case of taking the “wrong” food, the body will spend all its energy to digest it. Mariana Naumova, the ambassador of the healthy food delivery service Grow Food, the absolute world champion in powerlifting, talks about which foods should not be consumed before training.
High fiber foods
In general, foods such as whole grain bread or oatmeal are very beneficial for the functioning of our digestive system (we wrote here about why you should not exclude bread from the diet). Such food saturates very well, but at the same time it takes a long time to digest. This can cause dizziness and bloating if you exercise. Therefore, consuming it shortly before training is not a good idea.
Despite the fact that nuts contain polyunsaturated fats, they can be consumed a maximum of 1.5-2 hours before starting a workout. Again, nuts take an extremely long time to digest, so if you are a fan of snacking on a handful of almonds or cashews, then it is better to do this after class (we wrote about nuts and other high-calorie foods that do not interfere with weight loss here).
Spices give a great aroma and flavor to any dish, but there are several reasons why they should not be consumed before exercising. First, spicy foods can often cause heartburn, which will prevent you from fully exercising productively. And also spicy foods can accompany the onset of seizures.
Cruciferous vegetables, which include our favorite broccoli and cauliflower, can greatly affect your workout performance. They contain trisaccharides, which can cause bloating that may not be good for you when you exercise.
Milk, cheese, or yogurt should always be consumed exclusively after exercise. This is because they are extremely high in fat and can thus make you feel sluggish while exercising. Also, dairy products can cause bloating and heaviness in the stomach if consumed before exercise (about milk and other foods that cannot be eaten after 18.00, we wrote here).
Avocado is a very healthy product. But just like nuts, it contains polyunsaturated fats, due to which food is digested for a long time. It is better to use it after training: then it will saturate the body well and will only bring benefits.
It’s also important to keep in mind the wholesome meals that healthy food delivery services like Grow Food can provide. Thanks to a balanced diet, you will always feel full and get rid of the constant obsessive question: “What to cook this time?”
