The healthiest cereals for children: 5 simple recipes
ABOUTall kinds, corn and even quinoa – which one do your kids like?
Oatmeal with apples and nuts
Oatmeal is a versatile product for all occasions. I myself eat it every morning (I brew it in plant milk and add dried cranberries) and always take a pack of regular oatmeal on trips (it is convenient to cook it for a child when there is no time to look for a snack, or did not have time to go to the local store). The composition contains fiber, calcium, phosphorus, sodium, vitamin B1.
The recipe contains nuts. If your baby is under three years old, it is better to refuse them – nutritionists do not recommend them due to possible allergic reactions.
Ingredients (for 4 servings):2 tbsp. diced apples 1 tbsp. milk 1 tbsp. water Half a cup of oatmeal Brown sugar to taste A pinch of salt 1 tbsp butter ½ tsp vanilla ¼ tsp cinnamon 1 tsp olive oil ½ tsp lemon juice ¼ cups toasted walnuts, chopped
In a saucepan, combine a glass of apples, milk, oatmeal, water and sugar. Simmer until tender. At this time, place the remaining apples on a baking sheet, drizzle with olive oil and bake for 10 minutes, until the apples are light brown. Pour lemon juice over them.
Place the oatmeal on a plate or baby puree jar, top with baked apples and walnuts.
Oatmeal with coconut milk
I advise you to cook this porridge in the evening – in the morning you will have a delicious and photogenic breakfast for the whole family in 30 seconds! The recipe is extremely simple.
Ingredients (for 1 serving):1/3 tbsp. oatmeal (take larger ones) 1/3 tbsp. unsweetened coconut milk A pinch of salt 1/3 tbsp. dried apricots 1 tsp maple syrup Optionally, I add chopped hazelnuts
Combine oatmeal, coconut milk, and salt in a bowl or jar with a lid. Close and refrigerate overnight. Serve with maple syrup topping, dried apricots and nuts in the morning.
Quinoa with apples and cinnamon
Quinoa is a popular grain crop in South and North America. It contains a lot of protein, fiber, there is an amino acid lysine, which helps the body to absorb calcium. It is good in salads and as a side dish for dinner. And recently I have been actively using it to cook breakfast for my 5-year-old daughter.
Ingredients (for 1 serving):3/4 Art. milk 2/3 st. diced apple 1/4 tbsp. quinoa 1/4 tsp cinnamon 1/8 tsp salt 4 tsp chopped almonds 1/2 tsp honey
In a saucepan, combine milk, 1/3 tbsp. apples, quinoa, cinnamon and salt. Bring porridge to a boil, cover and simmer until all liquid is absorbed, about 12 minutes. Leave the porridge to steep for 5 minutes, serve with fresh apples, almonds and honey.
Creamy oatmeal with banana
The porridge has the most delicate creamy texture. No baby can resist!
Ingredients (for 1 serving):150 ml milk 2 tbsp oatmeal Banana puree or crushed banana
Combine milk and oatmeal in a saucepan. Cook for about two minutes. Remove from heat and set the porridge aside for a few minutes to thicken and cool. You can also thicken the porridge in a saucepan, but in this case, keep stirring it continuously. Once the porridge has cooled, add the mashed banana and serve. You can garnish it with a pinch of cinnamon and experiment with mashed potatoes: peach and apple cider are also great!
Corn porridge with fruit puree
Corn grits are rich in fiber and do not contain gluten, which is why it is recommended to start the introduction of cereals into complementary foods with it. True, at first you cannot add mashed potatoes or syrups to it. If you want to diversify the menu of an older child, then the recipe is below.
Ingredients (for 1 serving):200 ml milk 2 tbsp corn grits Banana Pear Boiled pumpkin
Bring milk to a boil and add corn grits. Cook the porridge over medium heat for about 5 minutes, stirring continuously. Remove from heat, cover and leave to steam. At this time, make mashed potatoes from banana, pear and boiled pumpkin and add it to porridge.
