Why breakfast smoothies are a bad idea
Blindly following diet and weight loss advice from social media (even if a superstar with millions of followers is talking about them) is not a good idea. We are all very individual, so before going on any fashionable diet, you should consult a doctor, get tested. There are also rules that apply to absolutely everyone. For example, you definitely can’t replace breakfast with smoothies. Even if you are told that it contains the world’s healthiest ingredients. And we talked about this with Elena Volodkina, a gastroenterologist and nutritionist of the Aging Control clinic of aesthetic medicine.
Interestingly, drinking a smoothie is not recommended during dinner either. And this is because the drink contains a large amount of carbohydrates, which should be avoided before bed. Even when it comes to healthy sugars in fruits and berries.
Also, according to Elena Volodkina, a smoothie for dinner can negatively affect the digestive system: at night we increase the production of hydrochloric acid in the stomach, so such a drink before bedtime can provoke even more of it.
The most rational solution is to drink a smoothie after breakfast or for dessert. Then the benefits of this drink will definitely be felt: natural ingredients contain many vitamins and trace elements. It is also helpful to have a smoothie as a snack in the morning between breakfast and lunch (until 3 pm-4pm) to reduce hunger and eat less food at lunchtime.
Blackcurrant and Strawberry Vitamin Smoothie Recipe
Almond milk – 100 ml
Strawberry – 30 g
Black currant – 30 g
Beat all ingredients in a blender.
Commentary by nutritionist Alla Manaykina (@your_figure_designer): “Black currants have more vitamin C than citrus fruits, making them a great vitamin cocktail. But upon contact with air, it collapses almost immediately. There is no time to think: cooked – drank. “
